About the Project:
In creating ECTOPLASM, I asked a handful of artists I know – classmates at SVA, friends from my hometown, and a few people I collaborate with online – to draw me something creepy and weird, something loosely horror-influenced.
I have been running Twelfthgecko Press as a microscopically-small, one-man-operation since I graduated high school in 2006, and until this year, my printing adventures were limited to creating copies of my own work. But I wanted to attempt some kind of multi-artist collaboration project, in the theory that by creating an anthology of widely varied works and styles, the involved artists would garner more attention than any of us could on our own. All of the work in this book was created by high school or college students – this is a group of very young people striving to be professionals in a highly competitive industry. The age range of the contributors is 15 – 23 years of age.
ECTOPLASM is free because I wanted to create a comics anthology not in the interest of making money, but for the purpose of gathering exposure for everyone involved. None of the artists featured in this book are profiting monetarily from this venture; the printing costs are footed largely by Twelfthgecko Press, at an extremely high personal cost to me; and generously, Dominique Martin and Rebecca G. have also contributed some of their pocket money to assist with the printing costs.
So, in that vein, all we ask in return for this delightfully creepy little book is that if you see something you like, please take a few minutes to type the artist's web address into your browser and check out their site, leave a comment or shoot off a quick e-mail to express your support. We greatly appreciate your support!
Thank you again for checking out ECTOPLASM, and we hope to hear from you!
